Adam ‘A.Skillz’ is one of the country’s most funky beatmeisters. His fierce production skills and turntable dexterity has seen him explode onto the scene, collaborating with hip-hop legends and making music for worldwide brands.

February 2004 saw A.Skillz and Krafty Kuts team up on the TrickaTechnology Tour with live MC’s from the album playing shows all over the UK. The duo then went on to DJ together leaving audiences and dance floors astounded with their skills on four decks and four CDJ’s, playing at Glastonbury Festival, Pacha (Ibiza) and a live session for Steve Lamaq on BBC Radio 1.

Mash up your New Year! For one night only, Bootie moves to Mezzanine to celebrate New Years Eve, mashup-style!

At 11 PM, Smash-Up Derby, Bootie's award-winning house band, takes the stage to say goodbye to 2010 with a special "Greatest Hits" set. Resident DJs Adrian & Mysterious D play out 2010, mashing up the biggest hits from the past year. The band returns at midnight to help ring in 2011 with a pirate balloon drop, champagne toast, video countdown -- and a mashed-up version of "Auld Lang Syne" live!

In the upstairs room, Brass Tax takes over, as DJs Ding Dong, JoeJoe, and Mace spin a dirty combination of breaks, electro, d'n'b, and hip-hop to keep you dancing with balls-to-the-wall bass and beats. Surprise performances will grace the Mezzanine stage throughout the night, including -- direct from Paris -- infamous French rapper Grandpamini, random bizarreness from John!John!, and of course, it wouldn't be 2011 without an appearance from Baby Gaga!

There will be FREE "Best of Bootie 2010" CDs for the first 500 people through the door, and Calibree Photography will on hand with a Photo Booth to capture all your New Years Eve fabulousness!

Nostalgia Overload -- in a good way!

What happens when you put nostalgia and a (huge) squirt of lime in a cocktail shaker? This past weekend at Mezzanine! Seriously! It was a weekend of past memories and good times as the weekend came to an end in the wee hours of Sunday morning. It all started off on Thursday evening... Temper Trap, Sleigh Bells, and The Limousines graced our stage for the pre-party to Not So Silent Night's main event in San Jose. Here's a review of the night if you missed out! Friday night soon followed with a performance of "Unknown Pleasures" from Joy Division/New Order's, Peter Hook. The anticipation was so heavy leading up to the sold out event, we could barely contain ourselves! Check out a review of the night from Spinning Platters! Saturday night was the 7th Stevie Wonder tribute event, "Wonderfull" featuring DJ Spinna putting a twist on Stevie Wonder classics. Devin the Dude is a Houston-area rapper. Though relatively well-known among the underground hip-hop community during the mid-to-late 90’s, Devin did not achieve mainstream success until his appearance on Dr. Dre’s 2001 album. Besides sex, relationships, ridin’ trucks, smokin’ reefer, drinkin’ beer, partying, and conscious or proverbial themes, much of Devin’s work is also light-hearted and comically self-deprecating. The New York Times has called him “A brilliant oddball with a spaced-out flow."

Back in 1999, DJ Spinna and Bobbito were asked to spin at a party which paid tribute to the great Stevie Wonder. The duo quickly realized they had a mutual love for Little Stevie's music and, judging from the atmosphere on the dance floor that night, they knew they had a good thing going. A classic East Coast party was born. Wonder-full falls on the weekend of Stevie's May 13 birthday and features handpicked rare and funky covers from Spinna's and Bobbito's vaults. Today, KeiStar Productions spearheads sole production of the now incontestable and world renown WONDER-Full event. And lucky for us, the time has arrived once again for our West Coast ears to hear some songs in the key of life.

Summertime 2006, the sun’s ablaze and you’re laying low in the lush landscapes of the lavish Dolores park, Quadrant II. Teacate in one hand, you hear faint melodic buzzes and bangs emitted via ghetto-blaster, owned by a tonal tastemaker stationed a few blankets away. As your ears tune in to tame the tantalizing tempo, you are able to make out the lyrics through a delicately woven web of psycho-sonic synth melodies, “yeah, I’m a hustler baby. That’s what my daddy’s made me”, it beckons. You can’t help but question, “WHO is the courageous culprit that catalyzed this cataclysmically catchy ear-candy into creation to embed its soul into my cerebral cortex?!”… only to discover that Simian Mobile Disco is guilty as charged.

Cut to 2010. Times have changed and those forward-thinking visionaries have adopted a newfound model of creative consciousness through the collective strife for meaning. They’ve undertaken a desire to develop material that captures only the true essence of the self through revelatory innovative reinvention. SMD has done precisely that with their aurally evolved masterfully manifested mountains of sound. Still catchy as ever, their synesthetic aural vision has evolved into one that is all their own- dark and delectable minimal techno disco delicacies, bangin’ bloody bouquets of ballads that invade your eardrums invoking radiant rays of rhythm. These rays have been cautiously captured and packaged up nicely to be served right to your doorstep at your friendly neighborhood nightclub, Mezzanine.

SMD’s astounding abilities are further aided by their astral list of accolades; a FabricLive series comp, tons of BBC Radio 1 airtime, and collaboration with colossal bands such as Florence & the Machine, Air, Arctic Monkeys, Peaches, Klaxons, Yeasayer, Hot Chip, Annie Mac, and many more. City life. 1989. The sun just went down and you find yourself driving down the cold chromatic city streets. Prowling the desolate dusk-filled avenues emerges a dark decadent vampire-disco vortex. Beaming shards of acidic laser synth-stabs erupt out of analog 303s & 808s and embed themselves into the crevices your cerebellum summoning the memory banks of 1989. Indescribable feelings of nostalgia overtake you and physiologically manifest as goosebumps on your forearms and neck.

Crystalized android gems Azari & III emerge from the time capsule, 303s in hand, emitting cerebral surges of sound in the form of kaleidoscopic avant acid artistry. After looking into the timeless prism of the past, these wistful revivalists mold the sound of the future.

Another Award Show performance!

This one comes from the BRIT awards that were taped yesterday. This collaboration was a celebration from two of the winners, Dizzee Rascal and Florence from Florence and the Machine. The pair did a live mashup of Florence's, "you've got the love" and Dizzee's, "Dirtee Cash." It seems that Florence finally is the getting the recognition she deserves and received top honors at the show. It's great to see artist who have played Mezzanine sf doing big things. we look forward to having Florence at Mezzanine in April during Coachella weekend and Tickets are on sale now for Florence and the Machine and Delphic buy tickets here
